In the Book of Exodus we read: ולקחתי אתכם לי לעם, והייתי לכם לאלהים - “and I will take you to Me for a people, and I will be to you a God” (Ex 6:7).

Similarly in the Book of Hosea we read:
ואמרתי ללא-עמי עמי-אתה, והוא יאמר אלהי.
“And I will say to them that were not My people: You are My people, and they shall say: You are my God” (Hos 2:25)

Yet one chapter earlier we find:
ויאמר, קרא שמו לא עמי: כי אתם לא עמי, ואנכי לא-אהיה לכם.
“And He said: Call his name Lo-ammi; for you are not My people, and I will not be yours” (Hos 1:8).

However, the comparison between these verses suggests that אהיה לכם (eheyah lachem) is a misspelled and mis-divided אלהיכם (eloheichem) - “your God.”

In the Book of Deuteronomy Moses remind the Israelites:
ונלך את כל-המדבר הגדול והנורא ההוא אשר ראיתם
“And we went through all that great and dreadful wilderness which you saw” (Deu 1:19).

The Psalmist wrote:
וצדקתך אלהים עד-מרום: אשר-עשית גדלות; אלהים מי כמוך.
אשר הראיתנו (הראיתני), צרות רבות-ורעות:
“Your righteousness also, O God, which reaches to high heaven; You who hast done great things, O God, who is like You?
You, who has made me to see many and sore troubles” (Ps 71:19-20).

In the Book of Exodus we read:
ויספר משה לחתנו, את כל-אשר עשה יהוה לפרעה ולמצרים על אודת ישראל: את כל-
התלאה אשר מצאתם בדרך, ויצלם יהוה.
“And Moses told his father-in-law all that YHWH had done to Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Israel's sake, all the travail that had come upon them by the way, and how YHWH delivered them” (Ex 18:8; see also: Num 20:14).

Now we read in the Book of Hosea:
ואנכי יהוה אלהיך, מארץ מצרים; ואלהים זולתי לא תדע, ומושיע אין בלתי.
אני ידעתיך במדבר-בארץ תלאבות.
“And I am YHWH your God from the land of Egypt; and you know no God but Me, and beside Me there is no savior.
I did know you in the wilderness, in the land of great drought” (Hos 13:4-5).

It is not known how the English translator determined that the Hapax legomenon בארץ תלאבות means “in the land of great drought.” The Greek translator wrote here “in an uninhabitable land” but the comparison between these verses suggests that בארץ תלאבות (beerets thaluvoth) is a letter-deletion error, and mis-division to words of בארץ תלאות רבות (beerets thelaoth raboth) - “in a land of much travail.”
