In the Book of Genesis we find a unique expression:
רק לאנשים האל אל תעשו דבר, כי על כן באו בצל קרתי. - - -
“Only to these men do nothing; forasmuch as they are come under the shadow of my roof” (Gen 19:8).
The understanding of קרתי (qorathi) as “my roof” assumes that this word is a ת (th) letter-deletion error of תקרתי (thiqorathi) - “my roof.” However, this Hebrew word does not appear in the Bible.
The Greeks translated קרתי (qorathi) as: “my shelter” which suggests that they assumed that
קרתי (qorathi) is a מ (m) letter-deletion, a ל (l) - ר (r) letter-substitution, and a ט (t) - ת (th) dental letter exchange error of מקלטי (miqlati) - “my shelter” (e.g. Jos 20:3).
Yet there is another more feasible alternative. In the Book of Job we read about מגוריו
(megurav) - "his dwellings” (Job 18:19; see also: Ps 119:54). This word suggests that קרתי
(qorathi) is a מ (m) letter-deletion, and a ג (g) - ק (q) velar-exchange error of מגרתי (megוrathi) - “my dwelling.”
